My Origin Story as a Traveler
Dec 26, 2025
Kat Around Town began with a year away from home (2023-2024).
Living in Germany allowed me to experience German culture in everyday ways. I learned to slow down, to spend more time outdoors, and to notice the quiet details of daily life. Being surrounded by nature and walkable cities changed how I move through places and how closely I observe them.
German culture also influenced how I approach travel itself. There was an emphasis on balance, on structure paired with freedom, and on taking time rather than rushing through experiences. I learned that understanding a place comes from returning to it, not just passing through. I love to stay many days in a single place to fully take in what the place has to offer. That perspective continues to shape how and why I travel today.
Kat Around Town is where I share those perspectives! This blog is about exploring places with intention, appreciating nature, and capturing meaningful moments in both new destinations and everyday surroundings.
Everyday Places, Seen Differently

Moncton has become more exciting to me the more time I spend exploring it. Cafés and restaurants have a way of changing how a city feels, turning ordinary days into moments worth lingering in. Places like Jassy's Tearoom and Gusto’s are where I slow down, observe, and feel connected to the energy of the city. Discovering new food hubs has made Moncton feel dynamic and full of small surprises, proving that familiarity does not mean predictability.
Walking downtown is one of the simplest ways to experience that shift. Moving through the streets without a destination allows the city to unfold naturally through storefronts, passing conversations, and changing light. There is a rhythm to downtown that feels best when you take your time and let yourself notice it.
The riverfront trails offer a different kind of pace. Walking along the water creates space to pause and take in the landscape, where open skies and quiet paths soften the edges of the city. These moments of calm make Moncton feel expansive and grounded at the same time.
Photography as Storytelling

Photography is how I slow down when I travel. It helps me notice details in architecture, light, and atmosphere that I might otherwise miss! Germany is famous for their Christmas culture, so how could I not take numerous photos off all the Christmas Markets I visited? Crowded streets, warm lights, families and friends bonding over the holidays - these small details came together in ways that made each place feel personal, and that shows through the camera lens!
Capturing shots of famous landmarks has also changed how I see them. Online, they are often shown from the same angles, but when I am there, my perspective is shaped by the moment itself. I focus less on recreating what already exists and more on capturing how it feels to stand there.
